The short answer is more than likely, if you have had Covid-19, been under any high level of stress or had any surgery/anesthesia, hormone changes(birth/menopause), major weight changes, or major dietary changes, ect. , you are more than likely suffering from "Telogen Effluvium". Some quick background on hairs natural growth cycle: At any given time, about 85%-90% of the hairs on the average persons head are actively growing (the anagen phase) and the others are resting (the telogen phase). Typically hair is in the anagen phase for 2-4 yrs, then enters the telogen phase to rest for about 2-4 months, then falls out and is replaced by new growth. The average person loses about 100 hairs/day. So back to the matter at hand, a person suffering from "Telogen Effluvium" has experienced major body changes or a "shock" which pushes more hairs to enter the telogen phase than normal. Typically in this condition, about 30% of the hairs stop growing and go into a resting phase before falling out. This will usually increase the average number of of hairs lost from 100 hairs/day to 300/day. On the up side "Telogen Effluvium" is TEMPORARY and will typically only last about 6 months and then your natural hair growth cycle with return to normal. So while is is scary it's nothing to be concerned about
